Empowering kids helps children develop trust in their own capabilities, develop core strengths and gives them the tools necessary to manage and overcome challenges.
Its is important that parents, teachers and professionals learn how to make sure that their interactions with children are safe, strengthening and confidence building for the child and that they result in inspiring kids to dream big to be able to reach their full potential.
Teaching children about personal boundaries and how to protect them is an important step towards empowering kids about their own safety.
A child educated in body safety knows: a) if he/she feels unsafe, b) if he/she is in a dangerous situation, c) if there is someone crossing their personal boundaries and, d) how to ask for help.

Empowering kids to take care of themselves
1) Explain to kids how to protect their boundaries and how to ask for help if they feel unsafe or if something has happened.
2) Teach children how to say no and how to ask for help if they need something. 3) Show children how to be kind to themselves and others. A child who is nurtured and brought up to believe in him or herself, encouraged to explore and who is continuously given positive affirmations will develop the proper skills to be able to make healthy, safe and nourishing life choices. |
Empowering kids to protect others through your example1) Your kids are watching what you say and do. Show them by example how to stand up for themselves and for their values, even if other people disagree.
2) When you’re assertive, your children are more likely to be assertive as well. Children and adults can be active, empowered bystanders if they learn the right tools on how to step up and intervene (in a safe way) if necessary to stop abuse. |
Importance of boundariesLet your kids know that it is necessary to set healthy boundaries. When we show our children that it is OK to have boundaries, we’re giving them the tools they need to help build their confidence so that they can stand up for what and who they believe in. This should includes in-person interactions as well as online interactions through social media, apps and online games. Our children also need to know how to identify if conversation on social media, chat, or text has turned into harassment or bullying and we must teach them how to skillfully get out of such conversations and talk to a trusted adult about it. |
