How can healthy relationships help prevent child abuse?

They help develop positive communication skills where there is trust, respect and honesty.
Child abuse and neglect are complex problems rooted in unhealthy relationships and environments. When there are open conversations and respect for boundaries, children are equipped with better tools to say no and are able to assertively communicate with a trusted adult when they feel unsafe or if something has happened.
Promoting well-being involves understanding and addressing child, youth, and caregiver functioning in many different areas. A focus on well-being should be integrated into the field of child abuse prevention, addressing child and family needs related to well-being is a critical part of reducing risks and increasing safety and protective factors.
